Golf Etiquette

It is important to play "ready golf". "Ready golf" means that each golfer should go to their ball as soon as possible and get ready to play their shot. "Ready golf" is the key to speeding up the pace of play.

  1. Be ready to tee off on time.
  2. Keep silent when another player is hitting the ball.
  3. Turn off cell phones. Do not take a call unless there is an emergency, or it is 100% necessary. If required to take a call, step away from your group and talk as quietly as possible.
  4. Help teammates locate a lost ball. Limit search to 2 minutes.  Before helping a teammate look for a lost ball, hit your ball first, if feasible.
  5. Replace divots, fix ball marks, and smooth bunkers.
  6. Keep carts to the side of the green closest to the next tee box.
  7. Move away from the green immediately after putting out and record your score on the next tee box. If your team is on the putting green and there is a group waiting behind, after the first 2 players have holed out, proceed to the next tee box and get ready to hit your ball.
  8. Keep up with the group in front of you.
  9. Yell "FORE!" if you accidentally hit your ball into the group in front of you.
  10. Be ready to hit your ball when it is your turn.
  11. Take only 1 practice swing.
  12. Players can move into position if on opposite sides of the fairway.
  13. If the team behind you is waiting and if your team is on a par 3: hit up on the par 3, mark your ball, then let the team behind you play through.

While it is important that our golfers have fun and enjoy golfing with their teams each week, it's also important that golfers are familiar with the USGA rules of golf. Sources for the USGA rules can be found in the Helpful Links tab.

Specific Rules for Tuesday Night Ladies League:

  1. Mulligans are not allowed unless a weekly event permits a mulligan.
  2. Whiffs (or air shots) count as a stroke. If you swing at the golf ball and miss, it is considered a whiff and will count as a stroke.
  3. A maximum of 10 strokes is allowed per hole. EXCEPTION: If the event for the hole is based on the number of putts, continue counting strokes and record the putts separate for that hole. If the hole is not a putting even and if it takes 10 strokes to get to the green, then you are finished for that hole.
  4. If your putt is within the leather grip of your putter (standard putter has a 10.5-inch grip), you are allowed to pick up your ball and count the picked-up ball as a stroke. EXCEPTION: If the event is a putting event, then you must putt out and record all putting strokes.
  5. Ball into the woods or pond - There are not any out of bound stakes at Eagle Lake. Golfers are to move up to the spot where the ball crossed into the woods or pond, drop the ball 2 club lengths from the spot and hit the ball. Golfer will incur a one stroke penalty.
  6. During games where it is the longest putt, the longest putt can be your 1st, 2nd or 3rd putt as long as it is the longest putt.
  7. Hole #3 Drop Area - This is ONLY for those balls that land on the cart path by the bunker and roll all the way down the cartpath/hill.  The Drop Area is to the right side of the green with a stake indicating "Drop Area".  You can use the Drop Area with a 1 stroke penalty.  This Drop Area is NOT for balls that go into the trees on either the right or left side of the fairway. It is also not for balls that go over the green into the woods.   For balls that go into the woods you drop 2 club lengths from the spot it goes into the woods.
